Iowa Demonstration Fund
Invests Royalty arrangements and secured loans for Iowa innovation companies reaching commercial viability.
The Iowa Demonstration Fund sits under the Iowa Economic Development Authority and backs Iowa-based companies with technologies that are close enough to the market to show commercial viability. It is part of the state’s technology commercialization pipeline, but the funding itself is structured as a loan or royalty arrangement rather than an outright grant. Awards go up to $100,000 and require a 1:2 private-to-public match. The program is limited to companies in advanced manufacturing, bioscience, or information technology, and the business must be market-ready and smaller than 500 employees. The record also points to a prototype requirement, strong intellectual property positioning, and an exception for bioscience and medical-device projects that still need regulatory approval. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with decisions made every two months by IEDA’s Technology and Commercialization Committee after review by VentureNet Iowa. This program is best for companies that already have a product, a commercial story, and outside capital to pair with the state investment. It rewards teams that can explain why the technology is ready for market validation, how the private match is secured, and why the project deserves a committee review now rather than later.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
