Launched in 2018 and directed by Tyler Cowen, Emergent Ventures is a low-overhead grant and fellowship program for entrepreneurs and thinkers with highly scalable, 'zero to one' ideas for improving society. Grants are awarded globally, with dedicated geographic tracks for India, Africa and the Caribbean, and Ukraine. Applicants must be at least 13 years old; no institutional affiliation is required. Applications take roughly 30 minutes and decisions are made on a rolling basis, often within weeks. The program also launched the EV AI sub-program in April 2022, funded by Schmidt Futures, targeting AI researchers and entrepreneurs particularly in emerging economies.
