Match on Main
Offers Match on Main, supporting MEDC's place-based support program for Michigan downtown businesses.
Match on Main is MEDC's place-based support program for Michigan downtown businesses, delivered through local government and downtown organizations rather than directly by MEDC. Since 2019, it has contributed $5.9 million, and it is designed for projects tied to traditional main street corridors rather than general business expansion. It provides reimbursement grants of up to $25,000 per project, with one lump-sum payment after completion. Eligible applicants include local units of government, downtown development authorities, Michigan Main Street organizations, and other eligible downtown management entities serving Essentials or Certified Redevelopment Ready Communities or Select or Master level Michigan Main Street communities. Projects must be finished within 12 months of the grant agreement, and the business side of the project is limited to new or expanding place-based operators. The program fits storefront renovations, outdoor activation, technical assistance, marketing, technology upgrades, point-of-sale systems, and inventory purchases. Because it reimburses after spend, the strongest applications have a tight project scope, a main-street location, local sponsorship, and the cash flow to carry costs before the grant is paid.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
