Missouri Works
Invests in Missouri job growth through tax based incentives for retention and expansion outcomes.
Missouri Works is Missouri's flagship business expansion incentive under the Department of Economic Development. It offers withholding tax retention or transferable tax credits to companies that create new jobs or keep existing ones in the state. The program is structured in six tiers, from Zone Works and Rural Works at two new jobs and $100,000 of capital investment to the Mega Works tiers at 100 or more jobs. Benefits run for 5 to 6 years in most tiers, while Military Projects can extend tax credits for up to 15 years. The record also flags no bankruptcy or tax delinquency and requires a Notice of Intent before any public announcement. It is built for employers with a concrete expansion plan and a clear wage or headcount target. The tier design rewards larger payroll commitments, but even the lower tiers require disciplined timing, documented base employment, and an application filed by Box account or mail within two years of the base-employment date.
