NASA ROSES — Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences

Helps NASA ROSES Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences for all organization types.

NASA ROSES, the Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences omnibus solicitation, is the Science Mission Directorate's annual research announcement for a broad mix of space and Earth science work. It spans astrophysics, Earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, and biological and physical sciences, and it is structured as many distinct program elements rather than one broad topic. Awards can range from under $100,000 per year for focused projects to more than $1 million per year for larger efforts, usually over three years and sometimes up to five. The solicitation is open to universities, nonprofits, companies, and research organizations, domestic or foreign, although foreign organizations generally do not receive funding. Submissions run through NSPIRES, and each element carries its own deadlines and review rules. ROSES rewards applicants who match the right element closely and respect the mechanics of that element. The broad umbrella changes little from year to year, but the opportunities inside it move on their own schedule, so the practical work is to track the right topic, the right due date, and the right proposal format. The 2025 cycle opened in July 2025 and remains active through parts of 2026, while the next ROSES release is expected in July 2026.
