NC IDEA ECOSYSTEM

NC IDEA ECOSYSTEM is the larger ecosystem-building grant under NC IDEA, the private foundation in Durham founded in 2006. It supports organizations in North Carolina that deliver programs, coaching, technical assistance, networking, or events for rural founders, female founders, or minority and persons-of-color founders. The grant can reach $100,000 and is aimed at intermediaries that move entrepreneurial support into the state rather than at individual startups. The program runs annually, with fall applications typically opening in late October and a December deadline. The most recent confirmed cycle opened on October 28, 2024, included an information webinar on November 7, 2024, closed on December 5, 2024, and moved into evaluation before awards were announced in February 2025. Funds in that cycle were to be disbursed between agreement execution and December 2025 and fully spent by June 2026. Eligible applicants are nonprofit or for-profit organizations operating in North Carolina; individuals, endowments, lobbying organizations, political parties, labor organizations, and fraternal groups are not eligible. NC IDEA evaluates this grant on mission alignment, organizational capacity, measurable outcomes, sustainability, leverage, and timing. The strongest applications are from organizations that can show they reach the stated founder groups and can turn the grant into clear local activity with a practical deployment plan.
