DataWorks! Prize
Offers challenge rewards for teams demonstrating exceptional biomedical data sharing and reuse practices.
DataWorks! Prize is an annual prize challenge under the NIH Office of Data Science Strategy, co-sponsored with FASEB. It recognizes research teams that demonstrate strong data sharing and reuse practices in biomedical research and brings the winners onto an NIH stage for visibility as well as cash recognition. The program has run three cycles so far: 2022 with 11 monetary team awards, 2023 with 7, and 2024 with 13. It is a prize challenge rather than a standard NIH NOFO, and submissions are judged by an NIH panel instead of moving through a conventional grant review process. Public source material does not publish a fixed award amount per winner. The best fit is a team with visible, reusable data practice and a clear story about how others can benefit from that work. Because the prize is built around demonstrated behavior rather than a new research plan, applicants tend to benefit from concrete reuse examples, careful presentation, and a straightforward explanation of why the work matters to biomedical data sharing.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
