Biomedical Data Repositories and Knowledgebases (DRKB)
Funds biomedical data repositories and knowledgebases that improve information sharing and discovery.
Biomedical Data Repositories and Knowledgebases (DRKB) is an NIH-wide program led by the Office of Data Science Strategy for biomedical repositories and knowledgebases. Repositories handle storage and distribution, knowledgebases handle curated annotation and linking, and the program uses U24 cooperative agreements. It is the active NIH route for shared data infrastructure. The current pathways are PAR-23-236 for early-stage repositories and PAR-23-237 for established repositories seeking enhancement, both issued as multi-year windows. More than 40 projects have been funded, including UniProt, Gene Ontology, PhysioNet, FlyBase, and Reactome, and existing awards can also receive annual admin supplements such as NOT-OD-24-096 to stay aligned with FAIR and TRUST principles. Annual supplements keep existing awards current. The fit is strongest for groups that can operate a shared research resource with sustained curation, clear governance, broad reuse value, and NIH's substantial project-direction role under U24. Applicants need to be ready for a cooperative model rather than an arms-length award.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.

Funds continued development and stewardship of established biomedical data repositories for broad access.
