The New Mexico Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, also called the Investment Credit, sits under the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department and rewards manufacturers that import qualified equipment into the state and put it into use in a manufacturing operation. It is a tax credit, not a grant, and it is part of New Mexico's industrial tax-incentive stack. The credit equals 5.125% of the value of qualified equipment and can offset gross receipts tax, compensating tax, or withholding tax. The manufacturer must have a plant in New Mexico, the equipment must be used directly and exclusively in manufacturing, and hiring additional workers is required to earn or fully unlock the benefit. Unused approved credit can be carried forward to later reporting periods. The best fit is a manufacturer making a real capital investment in New Mexico and adding payroll alongside the equipment spend. The program rewards production expansion rather than general business activity, so the employment trigger is central to the value of the claim. Companies that already file New Mexico tax returns and can tie new machinery to operational growth will get the cleanest read on eligibility.
