Schmidt Science Fellows provides postdoctoral pivot fellowships for recent PhD graduates who want to conduct their postdoc in a scientific field different from their PhD. The fellowship is funded by Schmidt Sciences and operated by a separate organization (schmidtsciencefellows.org) in partnership with the Rhodes Trust. Fellows must be nominated by their PhD-awarding institution, which must itself be an approved Nominating Partner Organization. For the 2027 cohort, preliminary information is due June 1 2026, with full applications due July 13 2026, academic review August–October 2026, final interviews November 2026, and fellowship placements beginning July or October 2027.
