Runs SpaceWERX small business innovation pathway small business transition pathway Phase I to support feasibility-stage contracts small businesses.
SpaceWERX Phase I awards SBIR and STTR contracts to small businesses and small-business/research-institution teams to establish feasibility of novel space-relevant technology. Awards are issued under Open Topic or Special Topic solicitations and fund a 3–12 month feasibility study. All awards ride the DoD SBIR/STTR contracting vehicle at dodsbirsttr.mil (now branded 'Department of War SBIR/STTR portal'). SpaceWERX follows the DoD-wide solicitation cycle with releases typically multiple times per year. Successful Phase I awardees are eligible for Phase II subject to a USSF Customer Memorandum for Open Topic awards.
