CPRIT Academic Research funds cancer research at Texas universities and research institutions. The program prioritizes scientific excellence and measurable impact on reducing the cancer burden in Texas, with strategic emphasis on recruiting preeminent researchers (CPRIT Scholars), investing in shared core facilities, training next-generation researchers, and supporting under-funded areas including childhood cancers, hepatocellular cancers, computational biology, and cancer prevention/early detection research. Three recruitment mechanisms operate under the CPRIT Scholars umbrella: Recruitment of Established Investigators (up to $4M/5 years for senior faculty), Recruitment of Rising Stars (up to $3M/5 years for mid-stage investigators), and Recruitment of First-Time Tenure-Track Faculty (up to $2M/5 years for emerging investigators). Core Facility Support Awards provide infrastructure funding separately. Applications are submitted via cpritgrants.org; all peer reviewers must live and work outside Texas.
