The Rural Law Enforcement Grant Program, created by SB 22 (88th Legislature, 2023) and administered by the Texas Comptroller, provides annual state grants to county sheriff offices, constable offices, and prosecutor offices in Texas counties with a population at or below 300,000. Of Texas's 254 counties, 236 are eligible. Grant amounts for sheriff offices are tiered by county population: $250,000 for counties under 10,000 residents, $350,000 for counties with 10,000–49,999, and up to $500,000 for the largest eligible counties (100,000–300,000). FY2024 saw 502 grants awarded totaling approximately $126 million. One application is permitted per county per fiscal year; the deadline is 30 days after the first day of the county's fiscal year.
