MTRAC for Life Sciences Innovation Hub
Funds MTRAC for Life Sciences Innovation Hub, state-co-funded Kickstart and Mid-Stage grants for life-sciences commercialization at Michigan research institutions.
MTRAC (Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization) Life Sciences Innovation Hub is co-funded 50/50 by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC via Michigan Strategic Fund) and participating institutions including U-M. It is co-managed by U-M Innovation Partnerships and U-M Medical School's Fast Forward Medical Innovation program. The hub operates two grant tiers: Kickstart Early-Stage Awards (up to $42,500, semi-annual deadlines typically May 1 and November 1) and Mid-Stage Awards ($100,000–$250,000 for 1 year, awarded annually in January with an October deadline). Since 2017, the Life Sciences Hub has awarded more than $16.7M to 91+ projects, spun off 33 startups, and helped its cohort raise more than $233M in follow-on capital.
