R3 Global

R3 Global is a $60M Wellcome Leap program co-funded with CEPI. It extends the earlier R3 effort, which began in 2021, into a scaling phase that is building a distributed network of biofoundries across multiple countries. The program is active and currently in the next phase of scaling. The technical center is continuous-flow RNA medicine manufacturing at scale, with the larger ambition of producing treatments for thousands of diseases faster, cheaper, and at global scale. The eligibility profile allows for-profit, nonprofit, university, and research teams, excludes individuals, and requires consortia. No open solicitation is visible, so the program reads as a managed scaling effort rather than a fresh round. This is a program for coordinated groups that can operate across geographies and disciplines. Its structure points to platform manufacturing rather than a single product grant, and the co-funding with CEPI signals global public-health relevance. Teams that can assemble a distributed manufacturing network are the natural fit.
