Untangling Addiction
Supports developing predictive risk tools and novel interventions for substance use disorder prevention and treatment.
Untangling Addiction is a $50M Wellcome Leap program launched in 2025 to tackle substance use disorder through convergence science. It brings together clinicians, neurobiologists, addiction researchers, physical scientists, engineers, and computer scientists from universities, nonprofits, and the private sector. The program is active and already in execution. Its goals are specific: build predictive risk assessment tools with at least 85 percent precision, develop quantitative tracking methods for recovery monitoring, and create novel interventions for prevention and treatment. The program runs as a one-off cooperative agreement, excludes individuals, and does not show an open call in the source material. The best fit is a team that can combine clinical insight with modeling, measurement, and intervention design. The program is not about a single treatment idea; it is about methods that can predict, monitor, and alter risk and recovery trajectories. Because the source material already places performers in execution, applicants should read it as a managed program rather than an open solicitation.
