The IDC Agri-Industrial Fund sits inside the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, the state's national development finance institution under the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. IDC says it has 85 years of experience, with R20.7 billion approved, R17.8 billion disbursed, and a R161.9 billion asset base. The fund combines debt with a grant component, and quasi-equity or equity can be considered case by case. The minimum transaction size is R1 million. It backs food and non-food agro-processing, including citrus, avocado, table grapes, blueberries, tree nuts, poultry, and livestock, and it is aimed at enterprises that are at least 60% black-owned. It is best suited to established agri businesses that are expanding capacity, entering new product lines, or funding acquisitions rather than testing an early concept. IDC's wider tailored-products menu also expects economic merit, sustainability, and owner contribution, so applications need a clear commercial case as well as a development impact case.
