Instituto Balseiro
Supports advanced science and engineering training in Argentina through Balseiro research-led education and technology partnership ecosystems.
Instituto Balseiro is Argentina's leading physics and nuclear engineering school, based in Bariloche and jointly operated by CNEA and Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. The institution is fundamentally academic, but in the funding space it matters because it runs IB50K, an annual technology-based business-plan competition for young entrepreneurs.
IB50K is a prize program, not a grant line. The 2026 edition carries a prize pool of more than USD 50,000, with eligibility limited to teams that are at least half under 40, composed of students or graduates from Argentine tertiary institutes or universities, and working on an Argentine project base. The competition accepts biotechnology, AI, healthcare, climate, energy, robotics, telecommunications, IT, and other science and technology projects.
The selection criteria are close to what later-stage investors would want to see: originality, business opportunity, team quality, maturity, and triple impact. Outside IB50K, the institution's scholarships and fellowships are internal supports for admitted students rather than external funding routes, so applicants should treat this entry as a competition channel first and an academic institution second.
