Connects Caltech Office of Technology Transfer and Corporate Partnerships OTTCP in United States, delivering updates and pathways through innovation.caltech.edu.
Caltech Office of Technology Transfer and Corporate Partnerships, branded Innovation @ Caltech, is the California Institute of Technology's commercialization office. It manages IP, patents, corporate-sponsored research agreements, and venture formation for Caltech and JPL spinouts.
Its internal capital routes are the Rothenberg Innovation Initiative, the Gates Grubstake Fund, and the Caltech Seed Fund. RI2 offers up to $250,000 in seed grants over two years to Caltech professorial faculty; Gates Grubstake provides $50,000 to $150,000 of gap funding to Caltech faculty; and the Caltech Seed Fund makes $100,000 to $500,000 SAFE equity investments in Caltech and JPL spinout companies.
These routes are restricted to Caltech insiders, so the office works as a commercialization gateway rather than an external grantmaker. In FY25 it reported 132 invention disclosures, 8 startups, and $66 million in corporate contracts and gifts, with entrepreneurs in residence helping founders move from idea to launch through customer discovery, market research, product-market fit, and fundraising advice.
