Academy of Scientific Research and Technology
Offers commercialization and innovation support through research infrastructure, entrepreneurship guidance, and startup pathways.
The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, commonly known as ASRT, is Egypt's national science and technology academy under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was established by presidential decree in 1971 and reconstituted as an independent public authority in 1998, giving it a long-running role in the country's science system.
ASRT works through specialized councils, prizes, core research infrastructure, incubators, and joint programmes. Its public-facing support includes graduation projects, joint research grants, outbound fellowships, technology incubation, and challenge-style calls such as My Project — My Start, the ASRT-STARS-Tech fellowship, the Joint ASRT-BA grants, and AgriTech4Egypt. The academy's program mix reaches Egyptian universities, PhD-holding young researchers, and early-stage ventures.
The organisation is broader than a conventional grant maker because it also manages patent support, digital-library services, computing resources, science communication, and recognition through state prizes. Its operating model blends research governance with small-scale funding, and its sector reach extends from biotechnology and climate to space, quantum, cyber hardware, and agritech.
