The Australian Heritage Grants (AHG) program is an annual competitive grant program administered by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) through the DISR Business Grants Hub. The program has run eight consecutive annual rounds since 2018-19, distributing approximately AUD $5.3 million per year to support the conservation, protection, and improved public access of places listed on Australia's National Heritage List. Round 9, covering the 2026-27 financial year, is expected to open in late 2026; Round 8 (2025-26) closed on 5 December 2025.

Eligible projects must relate to places already inscribed on the National Heritage List, which includes places of natural, Indigenous, and historic cultural heritage significance. Funded activities include physical conservation and maintenance works, improving management of heritage values, enhancing public access and interpretation, and community engagement or educational activities related to heritage values. The program is recorded on GrantConnect under reference GO7920. Applications are submitted via business.gov.au. Unlike many heritage programs, the AHG is open to a wide range of applicants — individuals, for-profit companies, non-profits, universities, and government bodies are all eligible, provided their project is linked to a listed National Heritage place.

Round 9 opening dates had not been published as of May 2026. Prospective applicants should monitor business.gov.au and the GrantConnect portal (GO7920) for the Round 9 guidelines and opening announcement. The consistent annual pattern since 2018-19 gives reasonable confidence that Round 9 will open in the second half of 2026 and close within approximately six to eight weeks, consistent with prior rounds. No co-funding is formally required, but demonstrated heritage management capacity is expected in competitive applications.

Conservation, protection, improved public access, and community engagement for places listed on Australia's National Heritage List, covering natural, Indigenous, and historic heritage values.
