FutuMed Pago por Resultados is a results-based financing instrument operated by Ruta N, the science and technology agency of the Medellín metropolitan government, to accelerate real-world experimentation of technology solutions at Technology Readiness Levels 5 and 6 across four urban challenge areas: mobility, health, security, and circular economy. The second call, opened in 2026, made available a total pool of 6,000 million Colombian pesos (COP) — approximately USD 1.5 million — double the pool of the 2025 inaugural edition. Applications closed on 30 May 2026 at 14:00 COT.

Eligibility is limited to legal entities (companies, universities, research centres, foundations, NGOs) domiciled in the Valle de Aburrá metropolitan area of Medellín, Antioquia, with at least one year of legal existence at the time of application. Temporary consortia and unions are permitted provided at least one partner meets all individual eligibility criteria. The results-based payment structure is a defining feature: up to 20 percent of the award may be received as an upfront advance at project start, while at least 80 percent is released only upon verified achievement of pre-defined performance milestones (the PEMVD plan). Projects run for up to 14 months.

The instrument is explicitly designed for technologies that have completed laboratory validation (TRL 5) or functional prototype testing in a simulated environment (TRL 6) and are ready for deployment in real operational conditions in Medellín. Proposals are evaluated on the credibility of the technology, the quality of the PEMVD milestone plan, and the applicant's capacity to execute within the metropolitan territory. Organisations seeking information on future calls or clarification on eligibility requirements can contact Ruta N directly at FutuMed@rutanmedellin.org.
