Coefficient Giving's Navigating Transformative AI Fund accepts rolling applications for activities that build the AI safety field's capacity, explicitly excluding direct object-level AI research (which is handled through separate RFPs). The program funds four categories of work: training and mentorship programs (fellowships, internships, residencies, university courses, bootcamps, and summer programs); events (conferences, retreats, workshops, hackathons, and professional development gatherings); community groups (local or online professional meetups, in-person groups, or special-interest groups for AI safety practitioners); and resources and media (books, magazines, newsletters, websites, video, audio, and podcasts aimed at growing or informing the AI safety community). Past grantees include BlueDot Impact, MATS (Machine Learning Alignment Theory Scholars), ML4Good, FAR.AI's NOLA Alignment Workshop, and AI Safety Tokyo.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Coefficient Giving aims to make most decisions within approximately three months of submission. Eligible applicants include individuals and organizations of any type — for-profits, nonprofits, universities, research organizations, and independent practitioners — from any country. Both full-time and part-time projects are eligible. The program explicitly does not fund ML research or lab-type AI safety research; those projects should instead apply through the AI Governance RFP or other technical AI safety channels. University group organizers are directed to the separate Open Philanthropy University Organizer Fellowship.

Award sizes are not published; grants are sized to the scope of the activity proposed. Applicants are encouraged to apply even for smaller or newer initiatives, as the fund has supported organizations at early stages of development. The application is submitted via the dedicated form at coefficientgiving.org. Coefficient Giving directed over $1 billion in grants in 2025 across all funds, and the Navigating Transformative AI Fund is one of its core focus areas, reflecting the organization's position as a foundational funder of the AI safety field dating to 2015.

Training and mentorship programs for AI safety talent; AI safety conferences and events; local and online AI safety community groups; AI safety resources, media, and communications.
