The GAČR POSTDOC Individual Fellowship Incoming (PIF Incoming) is a three-year basic-research postdoctoral fellowship administered by the Czech Science Foundation, designed to attract internationally-experienced researchers to Czech host institutions. The programme was introduced in 2021 and is open to both Czech nationals and foreign researchers, provided they meet the mobility and career-stage requirements. The 2027-cycle tender was announced on 9 February 2026 with a submission deadline of 31 March 2026 via GRITA; results are expected on 26 November 2026, and fellowships begin January 2027.
Eligibility requires that the fellow completed their PhD within the preceding 4 years and spent at least 2 of the last 3 years conducting research abroad — a requirement that ensures the incoming fellow brings genuine international experience to the Czech host. The fellow carries out the full three-year project at a Czech university or eligible public research institution; for-profit organisations are excluded as hosts. The combined Incoming and Outgoing PIF tracks funded 30 fellowships from a total pool of CZK 145 million (approximately €6 million) in the comparable 2026-start cohort. Individual fellowship award amounts, scoring rubric, and page limits are published in the tender PDF document rather than the public announcement.
The Incoming track is distinct from the Outgoing track in directionality: the Incoming fellow relocates to a Czech institution for the entire duration, rather than spending time abroad. Both tracks share the same annual call cycle and submission deadline. Proposals are reviewed by GAČR's discipline committees, panels, and external international reviewers. The programme serves as GAČR's primary tool for international recruitment at the postdoctoral level and complements the JUNIOR STAR programme for slightly more senior researchers. The 2027-cycle submission deadline of 31 March 2026 has passed; the next cycle is expected to open in early 2027.
Funds 3-year basic-research postdoctoral fellowships for researchers (Czech or foreign) joining Czech host institutions, requiring PhD within 4 years and at least 2 of the last 3 years spent abroad.
