Internationalisation Fellowships
Funds Danish postdocs through full-salary international fellowships and career development.
The Carlsberg Foundation's Internationalisation Fellowships programme supports two-to-three-year postdoctoral fellowships that enable early-career Danish-trained researchers to conduct research at leading international institutions. The programme was formed by merging the former Internationalisation and Reintegration Fellowships into a single instrument; the standalone Reintegration Fellowship is being discontinued after the autumn 2026 cycle. The 2027 cycle opens 30 January 2027 with a submission deadline of 1 April 2027 at 16:00. No disciplinary restriction applies — the Foundation funds all fields of basic research. Applications are managed through a Danish, Greenlandic, or Faroese research institution as the host entity.
Award value is not expressed as a fixed lump sum but as a comprehensive salary-plus-costs package: the Foundation covers the fellow's full salary, DKK 8,000 per month in operating expenses, and family supplements of DKK 50,000 per year (with a partner) or DKK 100,000 per year (with children) during the international period. The host institution also receives a project supplement of DKK 206,000–257,000 per FTE annually, with the exact rate depending on scientific field. The international period must constitute at least half of the total project duration. To be eligible, applicants must hold a PhD from a Danish, Greenlandic, or Faroese institution awarded within three years of the 1 April 2027 deadline; parental leave or medical leave extends this window. Applicants who have spent 12 or more consecutive months at an international institution after completing their PhD are disqualified.
Fellows must reside in the country of the international host institution during the abroad period. The fellowship is administered through the applicant's Danish home institution, which submits to the Foundation on the fellow's behalf via the CF-Grant portal. The practical path to a successful application begins with identifying the international host institution and securing a letter of support from the receiving supervisor before the portal opens in January 2027. Fellows with children or a partner abroad will find the family supplement particularly meaningful given living-cost differentials at top international research institutions.
