The Carlsberg Foundation is a Danish enterprise foundation founded in 1876 by J.C. Jacobsen. It combines long-term ownership of Carlsberg A/S with philanthropic grantmaking, and it is described as the world's oldest enterprise foundation responsible for an industrial undertaking. In 2025 it distributed about DKK 1.026 billion in grants and held roughly 76% of the voting rights and 29% of the equity in Carlsberg A/S.

Its grants cover basic research across the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, together with research infrastructure, science communication, fellowships, and museum activity. Key routes are Semper Ardens Advance at DKK 15 million to DKK 25 million, Semper Ardens Accelerate up to DKK 7 million, Science Communication up to DKK 3 million, and Research Infrastructure with a minimum request of DKK 300,000. The foundation also runs Internationalisation Fellowships and smaller continuous calls for conferences, publication, and field trips or research stays.

The foundation is organised into four departments: the Carlsberg Research Laboratory, basic research, Frederiksborg Museum, and the Tuborg Foundation. Applications run through the CF-Grant system, with some calls open year-round and others on annual deadlines. For researchers in Denmark, it behaves like a high-capacity national foundation with a strong preference for well-defined projects, institutional fit, and clear scholarly output.
