EUDP Main Programme — Biannual

Funds Danish energy firms with innovation grants for development and demonstration.

EUDP (Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram) is Denmark's primary public co-grant programme for energy technology development and demonstration. It is administered by the Danish Energy Agency (Energistyrelsen) under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, and is governed by a board with a published strategy through 2030. The programme runs two calls per year — typically published in spring and autumn — drawing on an annual budget that reached 628 million DKK in 2025, with a single recent call attracting over 804 million DKK in applications across 82 submissions. Since 2007, EUDP has supported approximately 600 projects, reporting an average technology readiness level uplift from TRL 4.3 to TRL 7 across its portfolio.

The programme co-funds 40–60% of eligible project costs, with applicants covering the remainder. Typical awards range from DKK 2 million to DKK 15 million, although large demonstration projects can exceed DKK 50 million. Projects must sit within TRL 2–8 and cover research, development, demonstration, feasibility, or dissemination activities aligned with green energy transition goals. Eligible topic areas include green electricity, Power-to-X, energy efficiency, heating, grid flexibility, and carbon capture and utilisation (CCUS). Applications above DKK 3 million must be submitted in English; smaller applications may use Danish. Foreign companies may participate but must hold a Danish CVR registration and demonstrate a contribution to Danish technology development. Projects typically involve three to five participants and run three to four years.

Evaluation uses eight criteria including innovation level, alignment with Danish climate policy objectives, and commercialisation potential. Proposals are assessed by the EUDP board and secretariat. Industry-led consortia — where a company with a concrete commercialisation path leads a team including at least one university or research partner — represent the strongest fit for this programme. The call schedule is not published in advance; applicants should monitor the EUDP website (eudp.dk/en/soeg-tilskud) for spring and autumn call announcements.
