Energy Storage Innovations Prize Round 2
Pays up to $50,000 to energy-storage innovators solving unconventional grid use cases.
DOE's Office of Electricity ran this as a single-phase, $300,000 competition through the American-Made Program on HeroX, open to solo inventors as well as academic teams, small businesses, start-ups and non-federal government bodies. Submissions were judged on how original the proposed use case and solution were, the strength of the plan, and other standout qualities, with up to five Champions winโฆ
The competition seeks nascent or emerging energy storage technologies addressing less conventional use cases -- such as remote or electrically vulnerable communities and extreme operating conditions -- across any storage duration and technology type, from electrochemical and thermal to mechanical and chemical storage that discharges electricity.
