ESA BIC (Business Incubation Centres) is the European Space Agency's network of more than 20 incubation sites across ESA Member States, described as the largest network of incubators supporting space-related start-ups in Europe. Each accepted start-up receives up to €50,000 in equity-free funding from ESA, allocated for product and intellectual property development. The two-year incubation package also includes business coaching, legal and IPR advice, direct access to ESA technical expertise, and connections to broader business networks and workshops. Individual BIC sites are operated by local regional partners — technology parks and regional development agencies — who may add national or regional co-funding on top of ESA's €50,000 contribution.

Eligibility is limited to for-profit companies that are either space-technology ventures or non-space businesses that apply satellite data or technology (Earth observation, satellite communications, or navigation) in their products or services. The typical age cap is under five years from company founding, though individual BIC sites may adjust this criterion. Applicants must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the relevant BIC region. As of May 2026, active calls were open at BIC Lithuania, BIC Brindisi, BIC Padua, BIC Milan, BIC Slovakia, BIC Tagus, and BIC Centro, each with independently managed deadlines and application processes.

Because each BIC site sets its own selection criteria, scoring methodology, and timeline, applicants should engage directly with their nearest BIC before submitting. The programme is well suited to early-stage ventures seeking non-dilutive capital alongside structured technical mentorship. Companies that can clearly articulate how their product depends on or is significantly enhanced by space-derived data or technology — and that can demonstrate a credible path to commercialisation within the two-year incubation window — represent the strongest candidate profile.
