ESA BIC Business Incubation Centres is the European Space Agency's distributed incubation network for space-related startups. It operates through more than 20 local centers across ESA Member States, each run by a regional partner under a co-funding arrangement with ESA. The program offers up to two years of incubation and a fixed โ‚ฌ50,000 contribution for product and IP development, together with business coaching, legal and IPR advice, and access to ESA technical expertise and partner networks. Applicants apply to a specific local BIC rather than ESA headquarters, and they must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the region served by that center. Eligibility is limited to for-profit companies that are no more than five years old and are working on space technology or businesses that use space data and technology. The local structure matters because timelines, call windows, and any additional regional co-funding are managed by the individual BIC, so the strongest applicants tailor their plan to the center they want to join.
