Digital standards shape markets, interoperability and the values built into technology, but European SMEs, researchers, open-source contributors and societal experts can struggle to participate in global standards work. Setting up a management facility to support European specialists in global digital standardisation, including committee leadership, participation and European hosting of international meetings. The action should map standards landscapes and gaps, forecast emerging needs, promote the benefits of standards, build education and skills, and use open calls to provide grants to specialists.
