Horizon Buildings: Whole Life Carbon Data Platforms
Funds three €5.25M projects that plug embodied and operational carbon data into building certificates, passports and BIM tools.
Buildings already generate a pile of separate digital records — energy performance certificates, smart readiness scores, renovation passports, digital building logbooks — but almost all of them track energy used during operation. They don't capture the carbon locked into materials, construction and eventual demolition. The EU's revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive now wants whole life…
Building and proving out (TRL 6-8 by project end, starting at any TRL) a digital data-exchange platform for buildings that draws together whole life carbon assessments, embodied-flow databases for construction materials, Digital Product Passports, Energy Performance Certificates, Smart Readiness Indicators, Building Renovation Passports and Digital Building Logbooks into one framework — built on data standards and analytics that keep it interoperable with digital twins and BIM models, and validated across at least three large-scale pilots spanning different building types and use cases.
