Horizon Extreme Events in a Changing Climate
Funds three €6M research projects that improve prediction and preparedness for extreme weather and climate events across Europe and beyond.
Climate change is making many extreme events more frequent or severe, while hazards can interact in ways that amplify their effects. This topic funds research that improves understanding of past and present extremes, explains their causes and likelihood, and strengthens prediction and projection across timescales from short-range weather to sub-seasonal and multi-decadal change.
Projects can stud…
Research on the causes, interactions, likelihood and impacts of extreme events in a changing climate, including isolated, compound and cascading hazards. Projects combine models, observations, digital twins and innovative analysis to improve attribution, seamless prediction and projection, early warning, risk assessment and adaptation, support EUCRA and the EU Mission on Adaptation, and coordinate with Copernicus, Destination Earth and ESA FutureEO activities.
