Funds two €7M projects to turn underused biomass and bio-waste into valuable products through local platforms, better logistics and circular business models.
Europe has more biomass demand than its current systems can reliably supply, while large amounts of bio-waste, food losses and industrial residues remain underused. Better collection, processing and matching could turn these streams into valuable products while reducing landfill, incineration, pollution and pressure on ecosystems. Improving the collection, processing, matching and primary valorisation of under-used biomass resources, including bio-waste from food losses, food waste and industrial biogenic residues. Projects should build or strengthen at least five urban and rural biomass platforms, develop aggregation, pre-treatment, standardisation and logistics tools, support SMEs and local authorities, improve digital traceability and create practical business models for added-value products. Activities should reach TRL 6-8 while protecting ecosystems and communities.
