Demonstrating at least TRL 6 biotechnology-based processes that convert residual biomass into bio-based chemicals, intermediates, polymers, materials, ingredients or enzymes. The work can cover forestry and agricultural residues, aquatic biomass, urban or industrial bio-based waste, and mixed streams. It includes tailored pretreatment and fractionation, efficient separation and purification, by-product valorisation, product validation at TRL 5 or higher, feedstock logistics, circularity, and risk management for people, biodiversity and the environment.
