Automated Scientific Discovery (RAISE pilot)
Funds €10M projects that retrofit advanced laboratories with trustworthy AI for closed-loop scientific discovery.
This RAISE pilot supports laboratories that already have advanced automation and digitalisation but need an intelligence layer to connect instruments, robotics and data into a safe closed loop. Projects should let AI plan experiments, execute them through validated pipelines, learn from results and adjust the next run while keeping researchers involved in oversight and decisions.

Develop safe and trustworthy closed-loop scientific experimentation systems by adding an AI-driven intelligence layer to highly automated and digitalised laboratories. Systems should plan, run and analyse experiments semi-autonomously or autonomously, with human oversight, robust data infrastructures, secure processing and interoperability across instruments, robotics and AI. Demonstrate retrofit into an existing lab without a complete redesign, initially with a materials-science use case such as drug discovery, batteries, photovoltaics, carbon capture, water purification, soil remediation, alternative proteins or sustainable fabrics.
