Tackling gender-based violence against politically active women and LGBTIQ people

Pays research consortiums roughly €3.5-4 million to study, and recommend policy responses to, gender-based violence against politically active women and LGBTIQ people.

OpenEuropean CommissionEU

Tackling gender-based violence against politically active women and LGBTIQ people is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action from the European Commission that pays research consortiums roughly EUR 3.5-4 million to deepen understanding of the drivers and impacts of violence, harassment and online abuse against politically active women and LGBTIQ people, and recommend policy responses. This

The call wants research that deepens understanding of the drivers and short- and long-term impacts of violence, harassment and online abuse against women and LGBTIQ people who are politically active or aspire to be, including how such violence pushes people out of public life. It expects a multi-country, intersectional approach covering at least three intersecting factors (such as disability, race or ethnicity, age or religion), analysis of media coverage, cultural narratives in cinema and literature, and existing EU legislation such as the Digital Services Act, and engagement with civil society and people directly affected. The research is also expected to work with men and boys on preventing this violence and shifting the norms behind it, not just study it from the victims' side, and is encouraged to look at how periods of instability change how often this violence happens and how easily victims can get support or justice.
