The Commission wants research on distributing AI and generative-AI training and inference across cloud, edge and IoT infrastructure so Europe is not dependent on scarce, expensive high-performance hardware. Proposals should address orchestration, federated and decentralised computing, and ways to cut the energy and emissions cost of running AI models.
