Assessment methodologies for General Purpose AI capabilities and risks
Funds around two research projects, each worth EUR 3 to 4 million, to build benchmarks that test what general-purpose AI models can and cannot safely do.
Proposals must generate example benchmark tests that reveal latent capabilities in trained AI models, made available afterwards to GPAI providers, policymakers and other stakeholders as reusable evaluation tools. Work is expected to progress from Technology Readiness Level 2 to TRL 5. The topic strongly encourages interdisciplinary teams and requires Social Sciences and Humanities expertise so the…
The Commission wants research that builds assessment tools and benchmarks for evaluating general-purpose AI models, including multimodal systems, covering both beneficial capabilities and risks such as cybersecurity or CBRN misuse. The work is meant to support the EU AI Office's enforcement of the AI Act and give GPAI developers a way to self-assess compliance.
