The Commission wanted a project that mobilised domain scientists and AI researchers to identify long-term research challenges where AI could deliver scientific breakthroughs, across a range of scientific fields. It wanted the project to assess options for improving Europe's data, infrastructure and talent access for AI-enabled science, feeding into the possible future creation of an AI Research Council.
