Digitally enabled local-for-local textile and apparel production
Paid two European projects EUR 5 million each to demonstrate on-demand, digitally driven local textile manufacturing, re-granting up to EUR 60,000 per SME third party involved.
Roughly 80% of the textile and apparel products bought in Europe are made partly or fully somewhere else, and this Innovation Action aimed to reverse that by funding on-demand, digitally driven local production. Consortia applied for a EUR 5 million lump sum each, with two projects funded from a EUR 10 million topic budget, and had to propose at least one of two kinds of activity: small-scale demo…
The Commission wanted projects that demonstrated the economic viability of local, on-demand production of fashion and other textile products using advanced digital technologies across the product lifecycle. It wanted proposals to cut offshoring, reduce overproduction waste, and increase re- or near-shored production made in socially and environmentally responsible ways.
