Sustainable processing and refining of raw materials to produce battery grade Li-ion battery materials

Funds demonstrations that refine primary or secondary raw materials into battery-grade lithium-ion metals and active materials in Europe.

ClosedEuropean CommissionEU

Selected projects must include a business case and exploitation strategy pointing to possible follow-on funding such as the Innovation Fund, assess social acceptance of the proposed production facilities, and collaborate with a linked Coordination and Support Action topic running alongside it in the same call. The Commission's Safe and Sustainable by Design framework for assessing chemical and mat…

The call wants innovation actions that demonstrate cost-efficient, safe and sustainable production of battery-grade metals, precursors or electrode active materials, limited to lithium, cobalt, graphite, nickel, manganese and phosphorus. Source material can be primary (ores, brine) or secondary (mining waste, black mass, manufacturing scrap, process wastewater); mechanical recycling of cells and integration into cell production are both out of scope.
