The Commission wants direct recycling technologies that selectively recover high-purity active materials from battery electrodes, targeting economically challenging chemistries such as LFP, LMFP and sodium-ion, plus gigafactory production scrap. It wants proposals to develop automated sorting and handling, cell-design recommendations, and techno-economic and life-cycle analyses showing a competitive edge over conventional recycling.
