COMET Projects 2026 funds high-quality cooperative research between academia and industry, aimed at exploitable products, processes and services with strong development potential and medium-term market maturity. Consortia must include at least one scientific institution (universities, universities of applied sciences, research organizations) and at least three mutually independent companies — Austrian or foreign — of any legal form.

Maximum public funding is 45% of eligible project costs, with up to 0.45 m EUR/year federal funding and 0.225 m EUR/year provincial funding per project. The headline call cap is 2,700,000 EUR; participating companies must contribute at least 45%. Co-financing by federal provinces follows a 2:1 federal-to-provincial ratio and must be applied for in advance through the provincial authorities. Projects run 3–4 years with the possibility of follow-up projects and development into a COMET Centre. The call is open 24 March 2026 to 13 October 2026; the evaluation panel meets in early June 2027 and the funding decision is announced in June 2027.
