Funds deployment of robotics, automation and digital tools in small and medium European shipyards, demonstrated in at least three shipyards.
Projects can start at any technology readiness level, since the requirement is to reach TRL 8 by the end of the project rather than to already be there at the start. Grant funding takes the form of a lump sum rather than reimbursement of actual costs, calculated against a fixed costs table rather than itemised expenditure. The Commission wants innovative technologies — automation, robotics, advanced digitalisation and circular-economy processes — deployed and demonstrated in small and medium-sized EU/EEA shipyards to improve newbuild, repair and retrofit competitiveness. It wants proposals to develop biodiversity-friendly strategies for shipyard sites and a skills-development strategy for the sector.
