Demonstration of reduced energy use and optimised flexible energy supply for industrial bio-based systems

Funds demonstrations that cut energy use and add renewable, flexible power supply to bio-based industrial plants.

ClosedEuropean CommissionEU

A proposal picks one or more case studies of industrial bio-based systems and has to work across four fronts: cutting energy use through techniques like thermal separation or fast biomass drying, while also analysing the rebound effect of those savings; addressing the water-energy nexus across the whole factory and its utilities, not just individual processes; making energy consumption flexible en…

The European Commission wants case studies from industrial bio-based systems (excluding food/feed, biofuels, bioenergy and cultural/recreation sectors) that demonstrate energy-efficient separation and drying technologies, water-energy nexus optimisation, flexible energy consumption, and a shift to renewable energy sources. Proposals must include a demonstration task and use digital tools, including AI, to optimise the solutions.
