The Commission wants projects that combine bioinformatics, AI and biotechnology to identify and produce bioactive natural compounds from marine and aquatic organisms, for use in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food additives or agrochemicals. It specifically wants sustainable bioproduction routes — biosynthesis, fermentation, culturing — so discovery does not lead to overharvesting from the wild.
