Proposals must choose one of three options: Option A studies ocean tipping points, cascading effects and inertia under different greenhouse-gas emissions scenarios across near-, mid- and long-term horizons; Option B researches current and emerging human-driven threats to ocean health, from deep-sea mining and marine renewable energy to microplastics and invasive species; Option C focuses on ocean acidification, its drivers and ecological impacts against planetary-boundary and UN Sustainable Development Goal 14.3.1 indicators. All three options must feed Earth System Models and international assessments such as the IPCC and IPBES, build on existing infrastructure like Copernicus and global ocean-observing networks, and include social-science, gender and justice perspectives.
