Boosting the competitiveness of protein crops in Europe
Funds innovation projects that make European-grown protein crops more competitive, from farm-level breeding and machinery to new value chains and by-product uses.
Proposals must formally apply the "multi-actor approach" as a stated additional eligibility criterion, not just a recommended practice -- a proposal that doesn't demonstrably bring farmers, retailers, SMEs and consumers together in this way risks failing eligibility rather than just scoring lower. This call wants proposals that develop solutions tailored to different EU farming conditions to help protein crops compete on yield, quality and cost, and that valorise protein crops' by-products into feed and food. It is also looking for improved pest and weed management for these crops, and cost-benefit evaluation across different farming systems including organic.
