Eligible activities also include reinforcing international cooperation, structuring and strengthening national nodes, managing research data under FAIR principles, addressing issues raised by a prior ESFRI assessment or monitoring exercise, and developing or updating an infrastructure's impact assessment. Where a proposal reorients or evolves the infrastructure's scope, the new activities need to fill an actual gap in the research infrastructure landscape — addressing a new research or societal challenge, reaching a new user community, or integrating new resources or facilities, rather than just expanding what already exists. A company can't be the beneficiary, but proposals are still expected to show interaction with industry and SMEs and integration into the wider innovation ecosystem.
